Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior political figure said the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
